Was never in the Guard, so I have no idea how they handle bonus payments. As far as I know, the Guard is run by the individual state, not the federal government. They only come under federal control during national emergencies (or activated for overseas assignments). Army reserve units are always federal, so that's the primary difference between Guard and Reserve units.
